(2) (MKS Instruments, Andover, Massachusetts) A supplier of instruments, subsystems and chemical products to the semiconductor industry. Founded in 1961 by Ken Harrison and John Dillon, the company's first product was a gas pressure meter for wafer fabrication. After going public in 1999, MKS acquired a variety of companies over the years turning it into one of the most comprehensive suppliers of subsystems for wafer fabrication. (3) (Mortice Kern Systems Inc., Waterloo, Ontario) A software company that specialized in programming tools and utilities for a variety of platforms. For example, its RCS system for Windows, OS/2 and Unix was a version control software package. In 2011, MKS was acquired by Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC).
